Senior Quantity Surveyor

We are currently recruiting for a Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our Commercial Division in our Head Office in Dublin on a full time, permanent contract of employment. The successful applicant will be expected to travel as per the company’s business requirements.


As a Quantity Surveyor, you will play a crucial role on a designated contract for a key client. This fast-paced division will offer a varied role between estimating and managing several live projects. When compiling estimates, you will be required to conduct site visits in an effort to establish the full scope of works. The Quantity Surveyor will be responsible for compiling a BOQ (with accurate measurements) which is a reflection of the agreed scope of works and utilises pre-agreed rates. Previous experience with compiling BOQ’s will be an advantage.


This role will be responsible for managing subcontractor accounts and will involve the issuing of subcontractor orders, evaluating monthly valuations and assessing change orders. Due to the diverse portfolio of projects, a broad knowledge of construction would be beneficial while we require a proactive and driven person who can work well within a team and on their own.


  • Compiling BOQ’s with accurate measurements reflecting the agreed scope of works
  • Monitoring of weekly costs and productivity against tender allowances and reporting on same
  • Interrogate tender documentation against construction requirements to identify any difference to the scope of works and making the client aware of any cost implications. This process must be completed in line with contract requirements
  • Compile and issue invitations to tender, analyse subcontractor quotations and make recommendations for placement of orders
  • Review all incoming correspondence from Employers, Design Team and/or subcontractors, to identify contractually critical items and to initiate replies
  • Ensure the Construction Team is adhering to all contractual requirements and providing advice and monitoring of same
  • Reviewing programmes in respect of delays, disruption, damage and subcontract programmes and ensure as-built records are maintained while the appropriate policies and communications are issued in line with contract requirements
  • Manage the administrating applications for payment up and down stream along with payment of subcontractors to ensure positive cashflow where possible with fair valuations
  • Responsible for the commercial management of contracts and the cost reporting of contracts
  • Measurement of quantities in accordance with the standard methods of measurement as required
  • Present final accounts and additional cost applications
  • Compile and produce subcontract documents
  • General contract administration in line with our contract obligations and notices of change for any requested work that would be a variation to contracted work
  • Assessment of subcontractor’s applications for payment
  • Assisting with monthly valuations and the preparation of variations
  • Maintain variation logs for client and subcontractor variations
  • Ensure the correct site records are maintained
  • Compilation of tender documents and procurement strategy
  • Always behave in a manner fitting to the business ethos and always maintain the Company’s standards both internally and externally
  • Be cognisant to the sensitivity of financial data and the confidentiality of this information
  • Generate and issue monthly reports as required by the Commercial Manager
  • Act as a brand ambassador as you represent the Company through its ongoing expansion


  • Degree qualified in either a Quantity Surveying or a Construction Economics discipline
  • Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in a fast-paced commercial environment
  • Ideally has solid commercial and financial awareness
  • Excellent analytical and planning ability with exceptional numeracy skills
  • Strong understanding of financial and budgetary control (labour and subcontractors)
  • Must possess exceptional time management and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise and complete a wide range of tasks.
  • Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy in estimations and processing documentation
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with fluent English
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and develop relationships
